We will open the book.

Its pages are blank.

We are going to put words on them ourselves.

The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is called the New Year.

Some Reading Tips:

Learning to read is a complex process that begins almost at birth.  The impulse to read flows naturally from a child's curiosity about the world around him and his desire to gain mastery over himself and his environment.  The learning is fed by his steadily growing understanding of language and his interest in the magical power of words.  Although a small child may not yet know that a book contains words and the words convey messages, he will soon discover that it is something to hold, fondle and explore.  Before long, he will be pointing excitedly to the pictures and be naming the objects they represent as read to him.

We need to remember that children have their own internal timetable, based on their individual personalities and experience.  Our goal should not be to push children towards proficiency but to help them to get there at their own pace and in their own way.  In fulfilling this goal, we will be helping to foster in them an abiding appreciation of reading not only as the key to learning but as one of life's most relaxing pleasurable pastimes.

We can encourage the love for reading in a child and make the entire process joyful by:

  • Finding time to read together everyday
  • Playing Spelling games
  • Making TV a reading tool
  • Reading hoardings while driving (When you are not at the wheel.)
  • Creating funny rhyming words during dinner time
  • Reading bedtime stories

So Happy Reading!!!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year 2010!

First week of December - December 4 2009 to be exact - was the first field trip for the Upper Primary classes.  Yes, Grades 3-5 BTBIS went to the exciting zoo, Taman Safari Indonesia along with Homeroom Teachers Ms. Mary, Mr. JR, Ms. Lily and Mr. Dave.  Taman Safari Indonesia is located in Cisarua, Puncak and it took us less than two hours to get there.  If you like to observe wild animals like tigers, lions and crocodiles in their native habitat, then Taman Safari Indonesia is just for you.  Taman Safari Indonesia is a conservation center as well as a modern zoological garden with various collections of flora and fauna. In this zoo, you will not only enjoy the beauty of its nature, but also interact directly or watch the animals wander around freely.

When we arrived, we were just in time for the first Elephant Show.  It wasn't just an ordinary show for its mission is to introduce elephant conservation and education through an attractive show.  The actors were the zoo staff and ... the elephants themselves!!! The elephants were so clever, their acts were superb.  After the elephant show, we went to watch Various Animal Shows.  There were birds, dogs, porcupine, orangutans, etc. showing their skills.  At the end of the shows, we took pictures with the animals.  After we had our lunch, we continued our journey to the Baby Zoo.  Some students were so brave, they took pictures with the cubs and baby orangutan.  They had lots of fun.  Little did we know, it was time for us to go back to Jakarta.  The Field Trip to Taman Safari Indonesia was really wonderful for all of us and we are very glad for the opportunity to share our experience with you.

Dancing and prancing  in BTBIS

In the frosty air...

What a bright time, it's the right time

To rock the night away...

A festive celebration was held on the grounds of BTBIS last December 8, 2009.  Everybody was very eager and excited to share their talents to everybody.  It was a joint Christmas presentation of ECY and Primary Divisions.  A well-attended celebration of students, teachers and our beloved parents.  The program started with a bang! Colorful and cute presentations were rendered by the ECY students.  The parents were very delighted to get a glimpse and pictures of students who did not mind dancing and singing their hearts out. The Primary division interpreted various Christmas medleys and carols.  A touching song interpretation of So this is Christmas was presented by the Grade 4 students under the supervision and guidance of Mr. JR.  The reindeer were also present in the occasion as the Grade 1 students sang in character to the tune of Rudolf, the Red Nosed Reindeer.  The performances of Grades 2, 3 and 5 students were also commendable.

After the program, students went to back to their respective classrooms and shared with their classmates, teachers and friends the feast they had prepared. Each class had their exchange of gifts in their classroom.  The day ended with giving of loot bags from the school.  Nobody went home with a sad face.  Smiles were all over the school which is a living proof that Christmas spirit is very much alive in BTBIS.
